Cooley Adds Litigation Partner in Boston

Boston – June 21, 2010 – Cooley LLP announced today that Michael N. Sheetz has joined the firm as a partner in its litigation department.  He will be resident in Boston.  Sheetz is a seasoned commercial litigator specializing in employment law, as well as sports and entertainment industry-related matters. 

"Michael will further bolster Cooley's litigation capabilities nationally and on the East Coast," said Michael Rhodes,  head of Cooley's litigation department.  "He is a dynamic litigator with a diverse practice, and we are pleased to welcome him to the firm."

Sheetz has more than 20 years of business litigation experience in state and federal courts in Massachusetts and throughout the country.  His employment litigation background includes a significant focus on non-competition and trade secret matters.  In addition, Sheetz represents top athletes and sports organizations in a wide range of matters, including the Pacific-10 Conference, Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, Red Sox player Josh Beckett and Hall of Fame golfer Annika Sorenstam.  Active in the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) for more than 20 years, Sheetz was recently elected incoming chair of the ADL's New England Regional Board.

Sheetz is the latest addition to a Boston office that has more than tripled in size in the last three years.  The firm's 300-lawyer litigation department represents global corporations and individuals in intellectual property litigation, white collar, regulatory and governmental enforcement matters, as well as consumer class action, bankruptcy, tax controversy, employment and commercial disputes.

Prior to joining Cooley, Sheetz was a litigation partner at Nixon Peabody.  He earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law School and earned his B.A. from Tufts University, where he graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.
