John Robertson is a partner in the Cooley Business department. He is partner in charge of the Seattle office and joined the Firm in 2008.
Mr. Robertson represents clients in a wide range of transactions, including public offerings, mergers and acquisitions, and venture capital financings, as well as general corporate matters. His practice focuses on the corporate representation of technology and life sciences companies, both public and private.
His public company clients have included: Allon Therapeutics, Amazon.com, Corixa, Drugstore.com, Getty Images, Loudeye, Luna Innovations, Metawave, Otsuka Pharmaceuticals, Rosetta Inpharmatics and SonoSite.
His private company clients have included: A Place for Mom, Applied Precision, @mobile, Bobber Interactive, Calypso Medial, Clarity Health Services, Consera Software, Dexterra, Dreambox Learning, Dry Soda, EnerG2, Finsphere, Genoa Healthcare, GoTV, Hubspan, i4cp, Imprev, LiveGamer, Marketfish, Medio Systems, mQube, N2uitive, Optify, SourceLabs, Torrent Technologies, TravelPost, VacationSpot, Wavelink, WS02 and Zulily.
His venture capital clients have included: Frazier Healthcare, Frazier Technology, Ignition Partners, Madrona Ventures, Maveron, Mohr Davidow Ventures, OVP Venture Partners and Vulcan.
Mr. Robertson earned a J.D. from the University of Virginia, and a B.A., magna cum laude, from Duke University. He also studied at the Hopkins-Nanjing Center for Chinese American Studies in Nanjing, China.
Mr. Robertson has been named in the 2009 – 2011 editions of The Best Lawyers in America® in the specialty of Corporate Law. He was also recognized by Chambers USA - America's Leading Lawyers for Business as a top attorney and is listed every year in the Washington Law & Politics survey of best corporate lawyers in the State of Washington.
Prior to joining Cooley, Mr. Robertson was Chair of the Business Department for the Northwest offices of Heller Ehrman. Prior to that, he was a founding member of Venture Law Group's Kirkland, WA office.
Mr. Robertson is admitted to practice in Washington state and is a member of the Washington State Bar Association.
