Karen E. Hernandez is an Associate in the Cooley Business department. She joined the Firm in 2007 and is resident in the San Diego office.
Ms. Hernandez' practice encompasses a wide range of business and corporate matters, including general representation of public and private companies, private financings, public offerings and mergers and acquisitions.
Ms. Hernandez received a J.D. with a specialization in Business Law from the University of California, Los Angeles, where she was the Editor in Chief of the UCLA Women's Law Journal. She has a Masters of Business Administration from Auburn University and a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the United States Military Academy, in West Point, New York. While at West Point, Ms. Hernandez was a member of the Sport Parachute Team and, as such, jumped the game ball into numerous Army football games and was named the Overall Novice Champion at the 1994 National Collegiate Skydiving Championships.
Prior to law school, Ms. Hernandez served as a captain in the United States Army and commanded two companies. Ms. Hernandez was one of the founders of Ms. JD, a nonprofit aimed at promoting the success of women in the legal profession. Ms. Hernandez is a member board of directors of Athena San Diego, an organization for executive women in the San Diego life sciences, healthcare, defense, engineering, and related business communities. Ms. Hernandez received an Athena Pinnacle Award in the service category in 2009 in recognition of her efforts toward the development and promotion of skilled and talented women in the San Diego technology business community. In 2009, Ms. Hernandez was also named one of San Diego Daily Transcript's Young Attorneys, a recognition given to San Diego county's best young lawyers. In 2011, Ms. Hernandez was named one of San Diego's top "40 Under 40" by SD Metro magazine and was awarded with the San Diego Business Journal's "Women Who Mean Business" Award.
Ms. Hernandez is a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of California and the Lawyers Club of San Diego.
