Nan Wu, Partner

Nan Wu is a partner in the Patent Counseling and Prosecution practice group and a member of Cooley's Litigation department. She joined the Firm in 2006 and is resident in the San Francisco office.

Dr. Wu specializes in patent issues and has extensive experience working with investors, private companies, and public companies in the biotechnology industry. Her practice focuses on developing patent strategies and portfolios that support business objectives and provide leverage at the negotiation table. She is also knowledgeable about FDA regulations as they relate to patent strategies, e.g., Orange Book listing, paragraph IV certification, etc. She has extensive experience in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications; development and management of patent portfolios; providing opinions with respect to patentability, validity, and freedom to operate; conducting due diligence; and reviewing and resolving patent issues in business transactions. In addition, Dr. Wu works closely with management on patent-related business deals, including negotiating and drafting agreements for technology licenses, collaborations and partnerships.

Dr. Wu has been serving clients in the various areas including biologics, small molecules, vaccines, diagnostics, and medical devices. She has particular technical experience in chemistry, peptides and proteins, antibodies, genomics, transgenics, gene therapy, genetic engineering, metabolic pathways and networks, molecular diagnostics and drug discovery, biomarkers, vaccines, viruses, and drug delivery.

Dr. Wu grew up in China and received her M.D. from Beijing Medical University. She received her Ph.D. in molecular biology, cell biology and biochemistry from Brown University. In addition, Dr. Wu completed her post-doctoral training at Harvard Medical School/Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. She received her law degree from Georgetown University Law Center. Dr. Wu is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and in the jurisdictions of California, Massachusetts, and New York.
