Renee Deming is partner in the Compensation & Benefits practice group and a member of the Cooley Business department. She joined the firm in 2008 and is resident in the Palo Alto office.
Prior to joining Cooley, Ms. Deming was a shareholder of Heller Ehrman LLP and a member of that firm's Venture Law Group. Prior to its merger with Heller Ehrman LLP, Ms. Deming was a director of Venture Law Group and prior to joining Venture Law Group in 1994, Ms. Deming was employee benefits tax counsel at Tandem Computers. She has more than 20 years of experience as a executive compensation lawyer.
Ms. Deming has extensive experience with both private and public companies in the areas of tax and securities law related to employee benefit and equity compensation programs, including stock option plans, stock purchase plans, restricted stock plans, and executive compensation planning. She also provides advice to employers on employment law matters. Ms. Deming frequently represents executives in negotiating and drafting employment, retention and severance arrangements.
Ms. Deming is an active speaker on equity compensation topics.
Ms. Deming received her J.D. in 1981 from the University of California, Davis, Martin Luther King, Jr., School of Law where she served as the Articles Editor of The Law Review. She received her B.A. in History from Stanford University in 1975.
Ms. Deming is a member of the State Bar of California and the Advisory Board of the National Association of Stock Plan Professionals.
