Christopher Sundermeier, Of Counsel

Christopher J. Sundermeier is a partner in the Litigation department and member of the Commercial Litigation, Securities Litigation and the Venture Capital Litigation and Dispute Counseling practice groups. Mr. Sundermeier joined Cooley in 1997 and is resident in the Palo Alto office.

Mr. Sundermeier's practice is focused on several areas including complex general commercial litigation for a variety of technology companies. Mr. Sundermeier regularly litigates disputes involving a wide range of technology license agreements, supply and manufacturing agreements, joint venture agreements, product development agreements, complex commercial contacts as well as claims for theft of trade secrets and unfair competition.

Mr. Sundermeier also has an extensive securities practice, and has developed substantial expertise in securities litigation, officer and director liability matters and litigation relating to mergers and acquisitions. As a member of the Securities Litigation Group, Mr. Sundermeier regularly litigates state and federal court securities cases for public and private companies, oversees internal investigations, and provides advice and counseling to officers and boards of directors in connection with fiduciary duty issues and other securities related issues.

As a member of the Venture Capital Litigation Group, Mr. Sundermeier has expertise and experience handling litigation matters that are specific to venture capital funds, private-equity funds and their managers. This includes resolving disputes and providing counseling in connection with difficult fiduciary duty issues and troubled investment situations as well as defending against investor claims brought directly against the venture capital funds and their members.

In addition to practicing in the state and federal courts, Mr. Sundermeier has represented clients in a variety of alternative dispute resolution forums, including mediation and arbitration. He has undergone substantial training as a mediator and received his certification as a mediator in 2004. Mr. Sundermeier also currently serves on the Early Neutral Evaluation panel of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.

Mr. Sundermeier received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Boston College in 1993 and is a member of the Order of the Coif.

Mr. Sundermeier is admitted to practice in the California state courts, the U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit and the U.S. District Courts, Northern, Eastern and Central Districts of California. He is a member of the American Bar Association and Bar Association of San Francisco. In 1995 he was awarded Outstanding Volunteer in Public Service Award by the Bar Association of San Francisco.
